Tweed Seagulls can today confirm that Will Brimson has retired from Rugby League.
Brimson has been forced to retire due to having a C5-C6 in his neck and was recommended by a specialist to no longer play the game. It was certainly not the news Brimson wanted to hear at the age of 28 as he still had plenty of footy in him and in some great form in 2024.
Brimson stated “I’ll miss the lads the most for sure, the morale everyday at training is pretty hard to go past. I will also miss the competitive side of training and playing against Qcups best week in, week out. It’s not how anyone wants to finish their career on those terms, it was tough as football has been a massive part of my life for the 15-20 years”
Brimson has had a history of neck pain in the past and Round 12 against the Clydesdales is when the pain returned as he copped a knock to the head and pain instantly started in his neck & arm.
Brimson appeared in 78 Hostplus Cup making his debut for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in 2017. Having a short break from the game Will signed with Tweed Seagulls in 2020 playing out 62 games over his 5 year tenure with the club.
Hostplus Cup Head Coach David Penna stated “Will is a player you can’t replace, he was a competitor that always put his team mates first and would always stick up for them no matter what. Will has become a good friend and someone that Tweed as a club and myself as a coach can be proud to say that we have been a part of his playing career. Once you become mates with him you have a friend for life and he has made plenty of them here at the club in his time”
We would like to wish Brimson all the best on his future endeavours and thank you for your contribution to the Tweed Seagulls”
